Merchant banking is a tradition that dates back deep in history and developed from the trading routes of the Middle Ages. Originally intended to finance long trade trips, this practice has evolved over time and now includes a variety of innovative tools and techniques.
The Florentine banks of the Middle Ages were pioneers in this field and promoted trade and prosperity across Europe through their new practices.
Today, in a time of change and innovation, merchant banking remains a cornerstone of the financial world, and at Parmantier & Cie., we are proud to continue this tradition.
We combine historical know-how with modern approaches to develop tailor-made solutions for our customers — a recipe for success that has lasted for centuries.
OUR CLAIM
great work is to love
what you do.
Parmantier & Cie. strives to be a pioneer in modern merchant banking by bringing people and ideas together to develop individual and sustainable financing solutions. We place great value on expanding our strong network of customers, partners and experts to ensure that your financing solutions are based on healthy and stable foundations.
Parmantier & Cie. strives to promote trust, integrity and long-term partnerships in order to provide first-class, tailor-made and, above all, successful financing concepts.

OUR GOAL
At Parmantier & Cie., we have a clear vision in modern merchant banking: We bring people and ideas together to design future-oriented financing solutions. Our focus is on various areas such as Biotech, Biopharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Climate & Greentech, Fintech, Hospitality & Leisure, Media & Entertainment, Mobility and Real Estate. This is where we maximize our influence and ensure that our expertise is optimally used there.
The synthesis of creativity and networks is a living reality for us. The reliability of a handshake, when the word counts and agreements are binding, is becoming rarer in our modern world. For us, banking is personal and handmade — with care, experience and focused on sustainability. We consciously take time for our customers and pay attention to honest, authentic work: from people for people.
For us, reliability is the breeding ground for successful cooperation. A word is a word and remains a word. I promised.
Our employees are deeply committed to the values that define our character and culture. I stand up for this with my name and feel committed to you.
It is important to us to work closely and on equal footing with our customers. This is the only way to achieve success.
It is important to us to work closely and on equal footing with our customers. This is the only way to achieve success.

RENÉ PARMANTIER
René began his professional career in 1994 trading commodities at Brandeis, Hauck & Partner. He got to know international commodity trading at a young age. He served a wide variety of precious metal producers from five continents (Africa, Australia, Europe and North and South America). He learned to trade on the commodity stock exchanges in New York (COMEX/NYMEX), Zurich and London. He wrote his diploma thesis on the role of central banks in the gold market. In addition to trading in precious metals, he was responsible for foreign exchange trading and important hedging transactions from a very early age. He then started trading stocks in 1999. He experienced the rise and fall of the New Market at Gontard & Metallbank AG and then moved to what was then Seydler AG in 2002. The former securities trading house had a strong focus on managing stocks and pensions on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. René recognized the urgent need to broaden the company's business model and build up further strong pillars. He developed the company into an agile and decisive investment bank with new focus areas in Capital Markets (ECM & DCM), Designated Sponsoring, Sales and Research.
He became Chief Representative in 2006 and joined the Board of Management at the beginning of 2008 and became CEO in the same year. During his time, the bank was successfully sold twice. René developed Close Brothers Seydler Bank AG and later Oddo Seydler Bank AG into a market leader in designated sponsorship and financing of SMEs. During his time, the bank placed an average of around 50 transactions and up to EUR 1 billion per year in equity and debt capital for the bank's customers.
Under René's leadership, the bank has supported more than 300 transactions.
The bank achieved several leading positions in the relevant league tables and publications, such as Dealogic and others, both on the equity and bond sides.
René also founded the bank's own research company Close Brothers Seydler Research AG together with Roger Peeters in 2008. The company produced several top analysts. René was chairman of the supervisory board for more than 6 years until the takeover by ODDO.
René also dealt very early on with sectors that were “underbanked” in relative terms. In 2003, for example, he started managing real estate shares in the area of Designated Sponsoring and organized the first Seydler Real Estate Day with listed companies from this sector. Seydler was also one of the first banks to return to biotech companies after the collapse of the new market and structured financing solutions such as pre-IPO convertible bonds.
After René left the bank for Close Brothers Group in 2014 to Oddo & Cie. Group sold, began another phase of strong growth. René took on the global role of Investment Banking Group Co-Head in the Oddo Group and also became Group Head of Corporate Development & Origination for Investment Banking & ODDO Metals Germany with a total of more than 400 employees. After taking over Meriten Asset Management and BHF Bank, he also became a member of the supervisory board of the ODDO BHF Asset Management unit.
His last stop in December 2020 brought René to CORESTATE Capital Group, a publicly traded asset manager with Euro 28 billion assets under advisory, where he was active as Chief Executive Officer until March 2022. He initiated the necessary reorganization and restructuring of the company and handed over his position as CEO to Corestate shareholder Stavros Efremidis in March 2022.
After a creative break, René started his own business for the first time in 2023. Parmantier & Cie. is the logical development of its story.
René was born in Frankfurt am Main. He is married and has four children.
